Wrinkle Softening & Brow Freezing

How are Botulinum Toxin injections performed?

Botulinum Toxin injection is a simple, safe and effective procedure. A tiny amount of Botulinum Toxin is injected with a very fine needle into several locations in the face. Because the needle is fine and only a tiny amount of liquid is used, there is minimal pain associated with the injections. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required, and you can drive and engage in all of your normal daily activities immediately after your injections. You may have slight temporary bruising of the skin at your injection sites, but otherwise, there will be no visible signs that you have had treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Potential side effects can include transient weakness of eye closure, drooping of eyelids, or asymmetry of facial expression. The risk of side effects depends on the muscles injected. As Botulinum Toxin is completely reversible, any side effects related to excessive weakness are temporary, usually only lasting a number of days.

We would normally advise "less" rather than "more" injections to minimise any risk of side effects.

What kind of results can I expect?

Results with Botulinum Toxin injections will help in maintaining a more youthful appearance but it will not improve static wrinkles that are unrelated to facial movement.

Early results from clinical trials suggest that the duration of benefits increases with time so that you may require injections less frequently in the future, but this will vary from person to person. In addition, the treatment may be less effective past the age 65. The Botulinum Toxin effect will be apparent 3-4 days after the injection and will last up to 3-4 months. It can be repeated should one wish to. Everything will return to normal within 3-4 months.
